On beautiful buildings in Paris, the Labour conference & the importance of wrapping up warm in winter...
October has historically been the busiest month of the year for us here at Metro and this year was no exception!
As always we were responsible for the AV at the Labour Party Conference in Manchester. This is always an impressive set, requiring state of the art technology and we were delighted to be involved again.
We took on a new client who held a huge event over the course of two days at Heron Tower in the heart of the city. This was an exciting summit to look at financial innovation across the world as the client are a global, not-for-profit think tank. The event ran without a glitch and the client was delighted.
Whilst this was taking place we were also running simultaneous events in Budapest & Paris. The Paris event deserves particular mention as it was part of a series of events being run by Citi to celebrate their 200th anniversary. The event was held in the magnificent Hôtel de Talleyrand, a world monument and one of the most regal & impressive buildings in a city with a lot of serious competition.
We were also runnning the Ernst & Young UK Careers roadshows which toured 18 venues around the country hosting up to 300 graduates at each event, a huge undertaking logistically and a lot of hard work. The shows were a huge success for Ernst & Young with many bright young things of tomorrow turning up to find out about what life is like working for one of the world's foremost professional services firms.
Whilst this was going on we ran 14 roadshows for Linklaters, 5 road shows for Deloitte and provided the AV at the ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers) Awards at Grosvenor House, with stars such as Taio Cruz, Frank Turner & Annie Lennox there to make the most of an awesome night. We continued to build on our partnership with Tesco running the AV for their annual results. we ran the FSA conference over at East Winter Gardens & also ran a large conference for one of our biggest clients on the pharmaceutical side of the business at the Radisson Blu...
We also provided AV at an interesting event in Waterloo which was the launch of the South London Procurement Network. This is a really interesting free business support initiative set up by Canary Wharf Group plc (CWG) and Qatari Diar (QD). The room was filled with members of local businesses and representatives of some of the larger organisations doing business in the city and we wish the folks at SLPN all the best in their endeavours to unite the business community of South London, of which we are proud to be playing our part.
So things are slowly returning back to normal! I wouldn't go so far as to ever say we're quiet but the frantic pace of October has eased slightly and we are in a good space to start thinking about the the run up to the time of year that shall not be mentioned yet (even though the ads are on TV!).
We're doing our bit for our favourite city as well, having spotted the campaign "Wrap up London" (http://handsonlondon.org.uk/en/wrap-up-london-2012) we decided to get involved. It's a great & really simple initiative encouraging London residents to donate warm jackets for those less fortunate than us who find themselves out in the cold during these harsh winter months. I thiiiink we also broke a record for most coats worn at one time (by a Metro employee) but as yet this is still uncorroborated, and we're waiting on confirmation from the Irish folks with the black & white beer (not really). Looking good Alex!
On a final note, I have been lucky enough to attend some great industry events recently. The ISES Talks event on SEO was brilliant, over at One Wimpole Street. I also attended the Post-Olympic Conference held at the Grand Connaught Rooms and, as part of WPP attended the Hill + Knowlton D2 Conference yesterday on Digital Content, some really inspiring talks and great to have a chance to meet some really interesting people both within WPP and from client organisations too.
Anyway that's about it from me, just remains to wish you all a fantastic weekend and hope to hear from you soon.
All the best,
6 Camberwell New Road
