It’s a mad mission…. and Pete Boatfield signed up!
On February 23rd, video producer Pete Boatfield, one of our regular freelancers, will set out on a charity rally travelling 4,500 miles from Germany to The Gambia. With a fully-loaded truck, his mission is to deliver vital medical supplies to a charity-funded hospital in The Gambia’s capital, Banjul. With his sister Hannah, also a freelance film-maker, Pete will record and edit footage of the road trip for an awareness-raising documentary which is expected to be broadcast later this year.
Looking for a worthy cause to support, especially one with close ties to our team, we decided we’d help sponsor Pete’s mission.
The precious cargo in Pete’s truck includes medicines and medical equipment, gifts for the local community, electricity generators and even toothbrushes. Germany-based Drive To Help’s rally is a convoy of 14 medical professionals, mechanics and documentary film-makers driving seven vehicles from Germany to the ASB Hospital in Banjul over the course of just three weeks and there will be no fancy hotel stays along the way; the daring volunteers will be settling down for the night in the back of the van or pitching tents by the side of roads if it is safe to do so. They plan to sell the vans on arrival to raise further funds for the charity. One of the poorest countries in the world, The Gambia is in great need of the support provided by theASB Hospital in Banjul which treats over 36,000 patients every year for life-threatening conditions including HIV, AIDS and Malaria.
