MPI UK&I Promotes Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) In The UK

The UK & I Chapter of MPI is to champion the Convention Industry Council’s Certified Meeting Professional qualification in the UK through “I want my CMP”.

The CMP certification program recognises individuals who have achieved the industry's highest standard of professionalism. Through the CMP program, individuals who are employed in meeting management pursue continuing education, increase their industry involvement, and gain industry-wide recognition. The requirements for certification are based on professional experience, a minimum of 25 CEU hours of education and a written examination.

Over 14,000 individuals in 51 countries and territories have earned the CMP designation since its inception but there are currently only 21 holders in the UK and Ireland.

A recent agreement with Prometric now means the exam can be sat in the UK in Manchester and London for the first time.

To promote “I want my CMP”, MPI UK&I will be launching a series of ‘boot camps’ and MPI Learns events that will help qualify attendees for eligibility and prepare them for taking the exam.

Liz Rice, VP of Certification for MPI UK&I and Director at Metro Broadcast, comments: “The industry wants an independently accredited recognised certification that can raise peer acceptance, and MPI, as part of the CIC, is able to deliver the relevant education content. This is vital for those involved in Strategic Meetings Management Programs and for anybody justifying the need and the value of events and meetings within their organisation, be they an agency or corporate buyer”.

Miguel Neves, President MPI UK&I and Community Manager at IMEX Group states; “This is a very exciting initiative for MPI UK&I and the industry as a whole. We have held a number of Corporate Advisory Boards with input from a number of high level blue chip corporate event organisers. This is not a simple exam or eligibility process. It has gravitas and the feedback from our corporate advisors is this is exactly what they want.”
