Metro Ecosse Helps Education Scotland Showcase Commonwealth Games Venues Online.

On May 7th 2014, Education Scotland launched a series of short films online showcasing all 14 Commonwealth Games venues and the Athletes Village in preparation for the sporting events which will take place in Scotland through July and August this year.  Produced by technical production company Metro Ecosse, Metro Broadcast’s Glasgow-based business, the short films aim to support the educational needs of learners across Scotland and the rest of the Commonwealth.

The venue showcase is hosted on the Game On Scotland website – the official education programme of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games and its legacy.  The aim is to engage a much wider learning community with the venues and provide an alternative to physical venue visits.  The video content is also to be part of a wider educational programme; the film clips will be used alongside existing resource to inspire deeper learning about the Games and stimulate discussion on related issues such as sustainability, economic impact, active lifestyle, health and wellbeing.

Klaus Mayer, Development Officer for Games Legacy and Global Citizenship at Education Scotland said, “In order to provide learners across Scotland and the Commonwealth with a better understanding of the locations the Games will be held in, we decided to provide short introductory films of each venue.  The clips will allow practitioners to introduce the venues to learners as well as access relevant background information, including public access, leading to potential active engagement opportunities for young people”.

The videos, filmed on location and edited by Metro Ecosse, were created during February, March and April this year.  Each clip includes a guided tour led by venue managers and interviews with key staff.  The films capture the features and purpose of each venue and elaborate on details such as venue capacity, ecological sustainability, accessibility to the public pre-Games and long term use of the venues after the games have finished.
