Motorsport Magazine Celebrates John Surtees’ 80th Birthday And Its 90th Anniversary In Style At Spencer House
British racing driver John Surtees, the only man ever to have won a Grand Prix on two wheels as well as four, celebrates his 80th birthday this year. Having followed his career closely over the years, Motorsport Magazine hosted a special party in celebration of the magazine’s 90th anniversary and the 80th birthday of one of Britain’s sporting legends.
Spencer House, one of our favourite venues, was chosen as the setting for the event and we had the great pleasure of handling the audio visual, video and lighting for the occasion.
Other VIP guests included Sterling Moss and Nigel Mansell.
As guests arrived, they were surprised and delighted by a display of two vintage racing machines parked outside the entrance (by special permission); a 500cc motorbike which Mr Surtees rode when he won the World Championship in 1960; and the Ferrari which he drove to win the 1964 Formula One World Championship.
After dinner came speeches and video clips celebrating Mr Surtees’ remarkable career. Desserts and coffees were served in the Palm Room downstairs where guests remained for the duration of the evening.
