Technician Alex Taylor Hikes the North Downs to Raise Funds for Music-Making Charity.
With an ever-growing membership, Kent-based charity The Knights Academy of Music and Performing Arts needs to make building alterations to enhance their teaching facilities. The charity supports music-making for children in the local community and Alex Taylor, one of Metro’s event technicians, has completed a three day sponsored hike across the North Downs with three other volunteers. Together they have so far raised an amazing £3000 having covered a merciless 72 miles of the North Downs. As well as updating their teaching facilities, the Knights Academy will use these funds towards new instruments and equipment to cater for a higher number of members.
Having learnt to play the trumpet at just seven years old with the charity, Alex is still an active member of the Knights Academy, having previously performed at numerous events both nationwide, in Europe and at local carnivals, festivals and football matches. Alex now volunteers as a fundraiser and coach and still performs regularly in his spare time.
Alex said, “The idea of a hike appealed to us but we had no idea how hard it would be when we signed up! The charity supported me with all sorts of musical opportunities growing up and we are overwhelmed with the funds we have managed to raise to allow children of the next generation the same opportunities.”
He also said “I want to thank everyone at Metro personally for the huge support they have been in sponsorship for this hike; it is really appreciated!”
