Metro Ecosse’s Camera Crew Scrubs Up at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary
Metro Ecosse’s live broadcast team proved its ability to work under the most unlikely circumstances. Surgeons at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary are leading the field in ground-breaking keyhole surgery procedures and the hospital needed to share these techniques to a wider audience of medical scientists by satellite broadcast.
Having scrubbed up, the crew temporarily installed the cameras, vision mixers and sound equipment in a sterile, surgical environment. A fibre optic link, set up from the hospital’s ‘cath’ lab, led to the satellite broadcasting truck outside which facilitated the live broadcast to hospitals in London and the United States – showcasing new surgical procedures and new imaging technologies to leading doctors located around the world.
